Multiple spam email

My inbox is yet again receiving spam email. This has happened on and off over the last 18months. I have tried to fix this with spam filters but nothing has worked, then after a while it has just stopped. I can't remember how long this has taken in the past but this current episode has now been going for about two weeks. Marking mail as spam or moving to the junk folder is not helping.

It is very frustrating, is there a permanent fix for this?

Re: Multiple spam email

The fastest and most lasting solution is for you to open a new email account elsewhere, Edowl.  If you open and start using a free Google email account, you won't have this problem again.  In addition, you'll gain features you don't have today including:

-The ability to turn on two-step verification to protect your account.  Virgin Media accounts do not have this important safety feature to protect you against phishing and other tricky attempts by spammers to access your email account.

-The ability to set a longer and safer password.  Virgin Media accounts have a limit of ten characters which is an antiquated restriction which is far too short compared to the upper limit on the password lengths allowed by other email providers.

-Automated notifications if there is suspicion that someone other than you may be trying to access your account.  Virgin Media might send you a postal letter or text if they notice a problem.  A Google account sends you an automated email and lets you look at the history of when and where the attempts were made so that you can work out if there is a problem.

-Protection against spoofing.  This does not exist on Virgin Media accounts and has been causing several hundreds of people massive problems for months, while well-known criminal spammers make a mockery of the Virgin Media email team.

-Superb spam filtering.  Why fool around with an account where spam filtering has not been functioning properly for more than a year despite many reports of the problem?   Life is too short.  Treat yourself to a free working email account which does not have this sort of problem.

-All of the email sent to you delivered, without delays or significant problems with legitimate emails being marked as spam.  After a year of hundreds of reports since August 2015, six online newspaper reports, and escalation to Members of Parliament because Virgin Media failed to listen to their customers and business partners, Virgin Media has just now begun to start to deliver to spam folders large quantities of legitimate email which they have been incorrectly marking as spam and rejecting for the past year.  Deal instead with a responsive company that demonstrates respect for their customers and which doesn't require a government minister to tell them how to run an email system!
