I can no longer access my NTLworld webspace via FTP.

Did a traceRT and as you can see, it timed out on all 30 hops. it's as if the server has been restricted to serving whats already on it, but stopped all access via FTP. There are no error messages.

I've tried this on 3 different computers and via my phone acting as a WiFi hotspot. Nothing gets through.

C:\Users\Stu>tracert upload.ntlworld.com

Does the server need a reboot (which can only be done by staff at whichever server centre my webspace is in).

Re: I can no longer access my NTLworld webspace via FTP.

Once again, it would be good if the virgin media staff make an effort to read posts carefully for relevant information before asking for error messages.

To add to this I have a similar issue. In my case the server is not "unavailable" (I can ping or tracert to it) however it drops the connection immediately if I try to connect via ftp

ftp upload.ntlworld.com
Connected to upload.ntlworld.com.
Connection closed by remote host.

Re: I can no longer access my NTLworld webspace via FTP.

For what it is worth, I can still get into my ntl webspace.

My ftp setting are:

Hostname: upload.ntlworld.com
User: myusername
Password: ********
Account: none
Transfer type: Binary
Port: 21

I am not sure that this will be any help, but maybe it is worth checking your settings?

Since your traceroute fails, it does suggest that there may be a firewall or the like blocking packets. Does ping also fail? Perhaps Wireshark might throw some light?

Re: I can no longer access my NTLworld webspace via FTP.

Hi TokSik,

Welcome to the community Smiley Happy

I'm sorry to hear you're no longer able to access your Webspace via FTP, I know how frustrating that must be.  To help us work out what the problem is, can you tell me if you're receiving any error messages when attempting to connect through your FTP software?  There may be an access issue that we'll need to escalate to fix, the error message will give us an idea.

If you could let me know I'll gladly look into things further.

Kev

Re: I can no longer access my NTLworld webspace via FTP.

Thanks for the input, but just tried your settings - they made no difference, as I'm still getting the error message that there is no server at that address to connect to. Here's the message I get from DreamWeaver (I've tried various FTP programs) :--

An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host.
Dreamweaver cannot connect to host "upload.ntlworld.com". This may be due to one or more of the following reasons:

  • The network cable is unplugged orthe network is down. Please verifythat the network cable is connected and that the network is up.
  • The FTP server is down. Please verify that you can connect to the FTPserver using another FTP program.
  • The FTP host name is incorrect. Please verify that the host name iscorrect in the Site definition dialog box.
  • Accessing the server requires proxy settings that aren't properly set. Please verify that the proxy settings in the Site category of the Preferencesdialog box are properly set, and that the Use Proxy option in the Site definition
    dialogboxis selected.
  • It is possible your FTP may be using a non-standard FTP port (21). Ifyou need to specify a non-standard port, enterthe port number afterthe hostname separated by a colon

Re: I can no longer access my NTLworld webspace via FTP.

The only firewall I have on my machine is windows firewall, which is currently switched off. Ping also failed to connect :--

C:\Users\Stu>ping upload.ntlworld.com

Pinging upload.ntlworld.com [62.253.162.29] with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 62.253.162.29:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

C:\Users\Stu>

Given that it is finding the DNS server and getting the address from the name, I'd say that rules out packets being stopped at this end, by the firewall or whatever else.
I tried Wireshark, but that doesn't add anything extra I don't already know.
Thanks for the input anyway.
