Emails sent via 1and1 being blocked as spam

Hi, when someone who uses 1and1 for their email sends a message to my Blueyonder address it bounces back with the following message:-

SMTP error from remote server for TEXT command, host: mx.tb.ukmail.iss.as9143.net (212.54.56.11) reason: 554 5.2.0 Bmy61u0072qDaCc01my7mh Spam content found

I've spoken to 1and1 and they say their systems are all working correctly.

Is there any way to find out why it's being marked as spam?

Re: Emails sent via 1and1 being blocked as spam

Virgin would need a copy of the email headers - DON'T post them on the main board though.  A forum team member will get to this thread but it has been taking 7 days plus of late.

On the plus side Virgin media are forcing a change of spam settings, so where users currently have the default of Reject Spam, this will be changed to mark as spam and deliver to spam folder.  This means that mails will no longer be rejected with spam content found, unless an individual user changes the settings back to Reject.  Note though that although this began yesterday it's expected to take 2-3 weeks to complete for all users.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of the pending changes to the spam handling.

I would still like to find out why they are being blocked as it will affect other people on VM that they send to.

I'm delighted to hear this!  After more than a year of dysfunctional spam-content filtering, I'm thrilled to hear that productive action is being taken. What was it that finally tipped the balance and made Virgin Media understand the enormity of the problem they had been causing for senders and recipients with the previous ill-considered default spam setting?

Re: Emails sent via 1and1 being blocked as spam

Persistent but polite and technically accurate pressure from two dedicated Superusers who knew what buttons to press and when certainly contributed to the decision to change the spam defaults. And in all truthfulness we suspect that the M staff behind the scenes knew what needed to be done but as with all corporate entities a certain inertia takes over and things that seem obvious to the outsider take an age to implement. But we get there in the end.

But there is more to do to get the spam filters improved. We are assured that this work is in hand. But we won't let go. Glad you are thrilled. We have smiles of satisfaction on our faces too.

Sent a test message earlier today and it's still being rejected Smiley Mad

Re: Emails sent via 1and1 being blocked as spam

The announcement referred to in message 2 did say that the changes would take two to three weeks to roll out to all VM users, so the account you are trying to send to may still be set to block all spam.
