Emails Blocked to blueyonder, virginmedia, ntlworld

Hi,

We host mail for many domains, and over the last 48 hours have been receiving bounce backs from Blueyonder, Virginmedia, and NTLWorld domains as below:

(The following organization rejected your message: mx.tb.ukmail.iss.as9143.net)

Our IP is 164.39.11.156, and is not on any blacklists - is there any way I can find out why were were blocked / how this can be lifted?

Thanks,

Robert

Re: Emails Blocked to blueyonder, virginmedia, ntlworld

It helps to see an example bounce message - obviously don't post full email addresses on here - although leaving the domain in would be useful.

Re: Emails Blocked to blueyonder, virginmedia, ntlworld

@ITAnswersUK

I'm going to see if the @ModTeam can get someone to look at this.

My personal thought based on the error message is.

  • It's not outright blocking, at worst it's graylisting.
  • It looks more likely to be a continuation of the server fault that started on the 30th Jan.

My reason for believing this is that the error message typically encountered when graylisting is

421 Too many simultaneous connections whereas the error reported to your server is 421 .... Temporary failure

That said - the To: headers did draw my attention.  Does everyone in the To: field know each other?  If not, then sending a mass mail with all the addresses in the To: field is not recommended.  And is indeed a characeristic of spam.

Re: Emails Blocked to blueyonder, virginmedia, ntlworld

Hi ITAnswersUK,

Thanks for reporting this via our Community, we'll help in any way we can.

I have flagged a few other reports of this issue - 421 too many simultaneous sessions/too many concurrent connections and shall be happy to help investigate.

Please respond to my PM (purple envelope icon, top right of page) and I'll get things moved along for you.

Thanks Smiley Happy

Re: Emails Blocked to blueyonder, virginmedia, ntlworld

Hi ITAnswersUK,

I am happy to say that this issue has now been fixed. Our Liberty Global email engineers carefully inspected all data relating to this and other reported instances of this type of email behaviour. And, instead of applying an individual fix they have amended the way in which our servers respond to inbound email traffic.

You should have no further instances of "421/too many simultaneous sessions" bounce backs when sending mail to VM domains.

I am truly sorry for how long we've kept  you waiting on this, and I equally appreciative of your co-operation and patience.

I wish you all the best,

Jen
