Re: Email settings on android - Unable to send

use

smtp.virginmedia.com

port 465

SSL enabled

authentication = password

(the smtp.ntlworld.com server only works via the home broadband connection)

also I think the IMAP server port number should be 993, but if it works as is maybe leave alone.

Re: Email settings on android - Unable to send

So does this mean I can not email directly from my android phone over 3G without using webmail.

Why does android offer the facility to send email then? Is this a problem with Virgin rather than Android?

It seems to be a real clat that I can access my email directly but if I want to replay or forward I need to log into webmail. :mansad:

Does anybody know a work around?

Re: Email settings on android - Unable to send

not at all - it just means that you should configure your mobile phone's email client to use smtp.virginmedia.com, and not smtp.ntlworld.com, for the reason given previously.

Re: Email settings on android - Unable to send

So I can use smtp.virginmedia.com as my outgoing server even though my email address is @ntlworld.com

not only can you, you must (unless you only intend to use it over your home wifi connection)

Re: Email settings on android - Unable to send

I have tried changing my outgoing server but now get a message saying "Authentication failed. Please verify your username/password". I have rung virgin media tech support who have said because my email address ends @ntlworld.com that I can't use smtp.virginmedia.com. They then said they could not help further as they do not support email over mobile devices. :smileymad: Any idea what I should try next???

Re: Email settings on android - Unable to send

[ Edited ]

they are talking rubbish. I have @blueyonder.co.uk addresses, I use the virginmedia.com servers (and the ntlworld.com servers sometimes).

If you are getting authentication errors this is either because (1) you have a genuine password problem, or (2) you have not entered the password in the correct place for smtp authentication.

1) reset your password via My VM, make sure the new password complies with the rules and update your phone's email password

2) where are entering this password for smtp authentication in your phone? I don't have an android phone, so can't help much, other than to say that others have managed it, so it is possible and does work, so perservere.

Re: Email settings on android - Unable to send

I'm having similar problems setting up my .ntlworld.com email on the iPhone 4. I managed to set up my other email, a .virginmedia address no problem, but when I try to set up the nltworld address it just won't have it - neither imap.ntlworld.com  nor imap.virginmedia.com can be recognised. This is very frustrating as sending and receiving emails was one of the reasons why i changed to the iPhone (my old Nokia N97 mini was pants, though curiously I WAS able to set up the Ntlworld account on it). Anyone got any ideas, or am I stuck with just my .virginmedia account?

Hi Zareeba,

If you haven't already done so, please post a new thread detailing your issues (including any error messages you receive), and we'll look into this for you. Piggy-backing onto an existing thread in this manner makes it more difficult for us to assist.

Thanks in advance
