I use a Virgin sim in my iphone 5c and have done for around 18 months or so.
My ipad has an EE sim and my computer is conected to bt wi fi
In the last few days email updates on my iphone with the Virgin sim do not update for hours.
All other devices are almost instant. I have checked passwords and all settings, push etc but no improvement.
If I had to rely on my virgin sim only for email I would be stuck. Thinking I might have to change to another provider.
Welcome to the forums, I'm sorry to see you have been having trouble with emails being delayed on your iPhone.
So we can get to the bottom of this please advise of the following:

VM addresses are usually set to fetch within iDevices so you should check the time between sync is set to 15 minutes on both devices/is the same on both devices.
If you have already checked this then the problem may be at VM's end.
