Apologies for any issues you're experiencing with email at the moment.
We do have a reported webmail issue, whereby access is slow/intermittent. This may account for any anomalies with your 'reply' option.
Just to confirm that I correctly understand your issue, this is what you should be seeing after opening an email from the Inbox:
Is it the 'reply to sender' arrow that is greyed out for you?
Opening from Drafts for instance will result in a greyed out reply option.
Does this happen to only one sender or are more affected?
If possible please provide a screenshot - though edit out any personal information beforehand.
Alternatively you can send me a screenshot via PM (hover your mouse over my picture and select send message).

It is once they have been selected that the next screen is faded out and unusable. I guess it is as if drafts was selected of cause it is not
I was seeing the exact same issue during the recent problems with accessing webmail. Once the access issues were resolved the problem with the compose window was still evident. So I cleared the browser cache, closed down the browser, deleted all cookies relating to virginmedia. On reopening the browser and loading VM webmail I was once again able to use the compose window without seeing the previous issue.
