Converting email account from pop3 to imap

I want to sync my outlook 365 calendar with a windows 10 phone and a MacBook Pro. According to MS support pop3 accounts don't sync but IMAP accounts do. How do I convert my main email account (@blueyonder.co.uk) to IMAP. The mail type option is greyed out so no simple change there.

Setting up a duplicate account using IMAP changes the file extension to .ost. Can I export as .pst and import as .ost?

I found this on the web, from a site I have used before to give advice. Probably worth a read, but you actually need some help from an Outlook user which I am sure will be forthcoming idc:

If you're adding an Office 365 account, then a better option would be to use the Exchange option rather than imap.

Ran out of time to edit - IMAP only syncs mail.  It does not sync calendars or contacts.  Whereas the Exchange option does.

Thank you for that steer. I had just a similar thought when your reply was flagged but was afraid of loosing date in the process. I will update this space when I have resolved my issue.

Re: Converting email account from pop3 to imap

Thank you all for your advice, and adding to my meagre knowledge of modern IT systems. I have retained my main email account (pop3) for emails only and use my outlook.com account (Exchange) for syncing my calendars etc. As I was unable to find the Exchange settings for a Virgin Media account I decided that this was the simplest solution for me. Also if I change my ISP it should be simpler to make the change.

This morning a link from a friend's email lead me to Outlook for android which is now installed on my Kindle. The calendars on all my devices now have the same content. Windows 10 PC & phone, MacBook Pro and Amazon Kindle HDX.

Thanks again for your help.
