I have an ntlworld address and can use webmail, but whenever I try to set it up on another email client on a laptop, android tablet etc - it will not work. I use the settings that are on teh website, which are the same as on my PC, but always get an authentication or connection problem with the SMTP server. Sometimes just saying it can't connect. other times saying connection refused and sometimes saying a certificate or handshake problem??
Strangeley the pop server sets up ok, bnut still doesn't download emails.
My latest attempt is with my new Nexus 7 tablet. I set up the email and found hundreds of old emails and had to download and delete them all.
Now it won't see any new emails and if I manually change settings I get the authentication error. I am not logged into my email anywhere else whilst doing this.
I am using these settings:
SMTP server name
smtp.ntlworld.com
SMTP SSL
Enabled
SMTP port
465
SMTP authentication*
Enabled (or 'Password' on Macs)
SMTP username
Full e-mail address, e.g., richard.branson@ntlworld.com
Receiving mail (POP3)
POP3 server name
pop3.ntlworld.com
POP3 SSL
Enabled
POP3 port
995
POP3 authentication
Enabled (or 'Password' on Macs)
POP3 username
Full e-mail address, e.g., richard.branson@ntlworld.com
Any idea what I am doing wrong - I have tried multiple email clients.
Thanks

Dale_T,
Changing the mail servers won't make a difference unless you lot have made changes and not informed the public!!!
I am also have the same problems setting up my Nexus 7. I also can no longer receive any mails from my phone, unless I am at home. It looks to be a case of Virgin again restricting access to the mail servers from non VM IP addresses... Forcing people to use webmail to access their mail accounts!!!

Hi silvercue,
Please use the correct settings as listed below:
Incoming server
Incoming server = pop3.virginmedia.com
Incoming port number = 995
SSL = yes
Account/user name = full email address including @ntlworld.com (or @blueyonder.co.uk, @virgin.net etc)
Outgoing server
Outgoing server = smtp.virginmedia.com
Outgoing port number = 465
SSL = yes
Outgoing server requires authentication = yes
This should work for you.

Im using:
pop3.virginmedia.com
smtp.ntlworld.com
The only problems Ive had over the years, other than the pop3 change from ntlworld.com to virginmedia.com was my anti virus that stopped all my mail because of the settings, did the same to thousands others ... but that was easily fixed. It was just set to ultra paranoid as a default.

Thank you very much Jen. I've been having similar problems to the thread starter and your solution was spot on for me.

Yes Jen that solution seems to have solved my problems which were the same as the original inquiry.
Thanks for taking the time to reply,
Cheers, Jiester
