Android device imap + smtp settings

I'm having send problems

Incoming

U/n – blahblah@blueyonder.co.uk
Pw – as per connection to account via internet and works
IMAP – imap.virginmedia.com (was imap.blueyonder.co.uk as per virgin recommend)
Security – SSL
Port – 465

That works (& with blueyonder imap)

Outgoing

U/n – blahblah@blueyonder.co.uk
Pw – as per connection to account via internet
SMTP – smtp.virginmedia.com
Security – SSL
Port – 993

That doesn’t work and doesn't work with smtp pointing at blueyonder.co.uk

Any help gratefully received.

You appear to have the port numbers the wrong way round.

The IMAP port is 993 and the SMTP port is 465

That's correct. That was a typo, still doesn't work.

Re: Android device imap + smtp settings

This can be a bit complicated. Smartphones are poor at showing full error messages which we need for diagnosis.

You say it all works OK in web mail.

Can you test your client connection in a programme like Outlook or Thunderbird and let us know what the server response response is? Guidance here on how to create and see the log file.

Re: Android device imap + smtp settings

Problem Solved

The account concerned is a secondary one to the main account holder. The login credentials on the receive side are the secondary account holder but I now discover that the login credentials for sending are the MAIN account holder.

Now some %^&** at the email server must have changed this because that machine was running with the secondary account holder's credentials for sending. Severe angst.

Re: Android device imap + smtp settings

I'm not sure why this is now working but I am pleased it is.
