Sony Xperia XZ1 / L1 & Headphones

Virgin Media Staff

If you read a previous piece on the community on IFA 2017, you surely know that Sony announced the successor to last year’s Xperia XZ at this year’s Berlin gathering.

Sony’s new flagship XZ1 takes its design cues from the XZ, and continues the seamless metal loop design language incorporating IP68 certification, a nano-SIM slot and the smart power button doubling up as a fingerprint sensor, wrapped up in Corning Gorilla Glass 5 (the screen, that is, not the button!). The octa-core Qualcomm 835 chipset powers the internals, 5.2” FHD display and a 19MP camera capable of capturing content up to 960fps, with the 4GB RAM doling out smooth performance for unique features like the 3D Creator, PS4 Remote Play and HDR. The 3D Creator and PS4 Remote Play are differentiators in themselves – the former allows for very neat features to be captured through the lightning-fast capture process across four different scanning modes, while the latter affords you an immersive PS4 experience if you are connected to the same WiFi network.

Hardware is all well-and-good, you might say, but how about the XZ1’s software? And here we leave you with a big O – Android Oreo 8.0, with nifty features like picture-in-picture, notification dots, instant apps, background app limits and autofill functionality for forms, to name but a few.

Does the XZ1 not pique your interest? May we point you to the Xperia L1 (bundled with free Sony MDR-ZX220BT headphones) presenting a compelling 5.5 inch display with a higher screen-to-body ratio, solid MediaTek quad-core chipset, 16GB ROM with 2GB RAM combination, 13MP rear-camera with 5MP selfie-camera.

Which Sony will you plump for?

Had the xz premium, was not at all impressed, now have an S8+ and its so much better.
