Xbox connected to internet but unable to connect to xbox live

Hi is anyone else having this problem was in middle of game when got kicked from xbox live

and now it wont connect to xbox live

am on a wired connection so no wireless issues has always worked well till today about 2 hrs ago

i been intouch with virgin media who said they could not help at first but offered to give me number of people in virgin who could at a price

then eventually said its a provblem between xbox live and virgin media

what happens when it tries to connection, eg error messages.. can you also supply the make and model of router your using?, have you tried setting up port fowarding via eg - http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/VMDG480/Xbox_Live_360.htm (if you have the superhub)
