There seems to be yet another mass problem with the latency in world of warcraft form the service you try to provide.

Many many people reporting the problems here, and more posts to come as more people wake up I guess (or finish work either way).
One of the posts reported on the forum that they rang up Virgin media and they stated: "We arent going to investigate this problem unless enough people report it on the forum/twitter/phone".
So I'm just going to redirect every single thread to this page.

Yeah same problem here, was asked on the Warcraft forums to post here so this is copy and paste what i have posted there.
-----------------
I have the same problem. Its the same problem that happened a couple of months back and I suspect changing the MTU is helping the packets on their way through Virgin/Telia/Blizz but that the underlying problem is there. Some examples of what i have tried. ----------------------------------- 1.) When the problem occured: 36ms Home 2k - 7k World (slowley going up and down) --------------------------------- 2.) After Using Spersky's fix: 36ms Home 160ms - 400ms (slowly going up and down but in a much better range) ----------------------------------- Then I undid Spersky's fix to check it wasn't just the server getting better and sure enough I got the same results as 1.) so his fix is doing something. Next I try smoothping WITHOUT Spersky's fix. 3.) Using Smoothping (using the PuTTY/freecap method and connecting via Paris01 server) 36ms home 36ms world Perfect! -------------------------------- So it seems to be the same problem with the same workaround I used last time which is a paid for service, switch ISP or just wait for a fix. My hunch is that Virgin are doing something with QoS that telia don't like or vice versa, when I speak to them on the phone they go from flat out denials that they have any kind of QoS to admitting as such. Can't help but wonder if staff from both parties are just reading our posts on various forums and feeding our own guesses back at us lol. Anyway thats my 2c worth, I hope someone finds it useful. |

Same problem here,it's the third time I've had this issue in about 12 months. You would think with all the complaints something would have been done by now.

Also having the same problem perfectly fine tracert but world latency is at 4000+.
Interestingly the difference between home and world is bandwidth, which suggests wow bandwidth is being throttled.
The home latency is just for chat servers which are fine because there low bandwidth, but the world latency is high bandwidth since this is what transmitts all the actions of other players etc.
Not sure if that helps but there it is.

Why is it my solid 100mb broadband that works for everything else perfectly fine.. simply refuse to work with World of Warcraft this morning.
Can anyone actually give me an explanation of why it is only WoW having major problems and what is causing it?

Was going to bite my lip but I might as well let rip on this issue now so here goes.
First person I spoke to at VM told me they were aware of the issue but he was unable to help me because he was not allowed to issue the fix because it was unsupported and that i should use Google to find the answer.
When I pressed him for further information about the fix he said that I had to open ports on my Super hub to make WoW work and that this was unsupported by VM so he couldn't help further.
When I questioned it being a port fowwarding issue because 1. It worked yesterday and 2. I use UPnP so that ports are mapped dynamicaly he said he was Microsoft Qualified and that I was wrong, I asked to speak to someone else and he refused to connect me, in the end I had to hang up and redial.
The 2nd person I spoke to was much more helpful and being a FPS gamer himself was shocked to hear the amount of latency I had and after talking to 2nd line he confirmed that
1.) Virgin DO use traffic shaping
2.) They are having issues with Telia/Blizzard probably related to traffic shaping
3.) This may take some time to fix.

Same problem with WoW, absurd lag for no apparent reason. Tried ringing VM and got the message saying "We have an unusually high amount of calls try again later".
Why do VM keep having this problem with WoW?
