A number of customers in some areas have been reporting they've been having problems with high latency (ping times) while playing certain PC games during peak times.
Usually, all gaming traffic is prioritised to make sure you have good gaming experience. What should happen is that traffic should be prioritised as follows:
1) Gaming and VOIP
2) Streaming (Youtube, iPlayer, internet radio etc)
3) Web
4) Email
5) P2P
For example as Xbox, Wii and PlayStation traffic is always identifiable it's easy to prioritise. But PC games each need an individual signature so they're recognised and this isn't working properly for a few PC games. We're working on a fix at the moment but it would be helpful if you could tell us the games that you're having problems with. This is the list we are currently working on from what people have reported on the forum.
Hawx - Ubisoft
Call of Duty 4 - Activision
Crysis - Electronic Arts
Sins of Solar Empire - Stardock Entertainment
Half Life 2 - Valve
Team Fortress 2 - Valve
Left For Dead - Valve
World In Conflict - Ubisoft
Everquest 2 - Sony Online Entertainment
Unreal Tournament 2004 - Atari
Guild Wars - NCsoft
Halo - Microsoft
Counter Strike Source - Valve
Call of Duty: World at War - Activision
World Of Warcraft - Blizzard Entertainment
Fallen Earth - Fallen Earth LLC
Aion - NCsoft
Eve - CCP Games
Star Wars Galaxies - Sony Online Entertainment
Vanguard - Sony Online Entertainment
Lord of the Rings Online - Codemasters
Warhammer Online - Electronic Arts
Unreal Tournament 3 - Midway/Steam
Crossfire - Subagames
Tactical Ops - Atari
Need for Speed Prostreet - Electronic Arts
I'll update this message with any games you report in this thread and with any progress updates as I get them. Unfortunately I don't have a current eta on the fix for this problem yet but I'll post it here as soon as I do.
We're sorry that this has taken so long to get a handle on, but we're working hard on getting this fixed as soon as we can.

then how come it is my PS3 that can be unuseable online and the iPlayer can be next to useless :/
Going by your own rules they should be top of the class. No offence and please don't take this personally but I'm smelling the same stuff I got from tech support.

Im glad that VM are taking ownership of the problem!
The game I am having problems with is Wolfenstein.
I am also having problems with a gaming communication software called Xfire, it keeps disconnecting every few minutes.
Thankyou very much!

Hey all,
anyone who read anything ive written knows i get a little heated on things, but now im medicated so its ok , lol
mark wilkin sent me a pm, and as promised got the right people to look into the gaming in peak hours fiasco. so for once im actually happy, kudos to mark_ wilkin, for re instating a littl e faith in vm for me,
I know it may never be fixed, I know this because mark told me so, but at least he has admitted there is something wrong, I was a little peeved at being called a liar over the phone,
I sent my complaint this morning, mostly it s content was about the silly communication errors in vm tech support staff, Way too many unproductive phone calls, us making them, them recieving them, A bit of a shake up/improvements/retraining of staff to help/know where to go to get help would lower vm's wrokload and save me from dying from a stroke as my blood pressue hits quadruple figures ![]()
with a bit of luck v m will have this bum prioritising system fixed by the time modern warfare 2 comes out, or left 4 dead 2,
For future vm customers who come across here, my only real piece of advice is record your calls. It can save you some trouble when one guy says this next day soem guy says that, Can be really helpful if given the wrong instructions down the phone!!( i was)
anywho ( you probably notice the change in the ntone of my writing)
goodnight and goodluck
On cod4 and future cod mw2,, I am Raziel. kill ya later

hi , i had same problem, but ever since they turned the INTERLEAVING OFF my probs have gone, might not work with you but i find it a coincedence that when it was turned off my problems were fine, ask them to turn it off, and dont be fobbed off by tech support that it cant be done either as it can, anyway good luck

Hello,
I am having serious problems at the moment with my connection ping and throughput.
Trying to play World of Warcraft is near impossible, as my ping is usually 2000ms+ and I get disconnected every few minutes. Streaming audio or videos is also very slow.
I have just changed to virgin national 7mb after moving 3 weeks ago. Before that I was on cable and had very good performance in games.

Hi, you may be aware I left Virgin over this issue less than a week ago. Regardless, I'm happy to help. Battlefield 2 had BIG problems when I was at Virgin. So much so that every server had a ping of 150+, which gets you kicked automatically by Punkbuster. GTA: San Andreas Multiplayer was pretty awful too. I know it isn't even an official game as such, but you might want to look at it. Counter-Strike: Source wasn't actually too bad for me, and was probably the only game I could play at night, until things got really bad. Team Fortress 2 was terrible though, so it's not as if all Steam games were fine. Aside from the games on that list SWAT 4, Command And Conquer: Red Alert 3, and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games are the other ones that I can think of which have terrible pings, although I didn't play them much.
Sad that this wasn't sorted out earlier, but some people are still under contract, and it wouldn't be fair just to leave them.
