Hi
I recently moved home and my virgin media national broadband is supposed to be activated on Thursday next week (boo! no fibre optic!!)
my question is will I receive a new modem/router to use at my new address as I believe that the standard virgin media modem/router are now "N" grade and the one I have is "G" so would like to receive a new one. Could someone please advise in PM
as I have moved home recently and havent got the time to wire everything in I will be making use of wireless quite a bit so need the best speed router I can get (for both xbox live gaming and PC gaming)
Thanks

Depends:
1) whether you have switched from fibre/cable to ADSL (broadband down phone line).
2) whether your supplied speed exceeds 54mbs (the upper limit for wireless G)
3) whether you need extra wireless speed simply for connecting one game device to another within your home.
The DGN1000 n-wireless router supplied by Virgin will need updating if the firmware version ends with the figure 19. Hopefully Virgin will have updated any routers sent out recently but otherwise you will have to do it (see thread near top of topic list).
If your existing router is a white Netgear designed to work with your new service, these are (in my experience) reliable.

I havent changes services as fibre optic cable was not available where my new house is so I have had to stick with the national BB down the phone line (ADSL)
I have the white netgear "G" modem/router currently which sucks for wireless connectivity (we mostly use our BB for gaming both on the PC and XBOX Live) and as the phone socket is in the hall and the PC/Xbox in the living room we will need to utilise wireless until we can hard wire stuff in which will take a while as we need to lay carpets etc before we get to this. Which is why I need a new "N" grade modem/router to boost the wireless signal and allow us to fully utilise the connection. (we also have a PC in a kids bedroom we would like to connect wirelessley)
I received a text message telling me when my services would go live but nothing about delivery of any peripherals so I have a feeling I'm not going to get one....
which further puts me off Virgin. I was planning on going with Sky to be honest because they
1. Have higher speeds for ADSL lines in that area
2. I can get TV for an extra £10 a month which I cant from Virgin
3. The installation fee is £12 instead of the £50 virgin are charging me
The only reason I stuck with Virgin is because they are tried and tested and I have been with them for a couple of years now but if they cant provide me with the appropriate kit to utilise what I am pretty much paying through the nose for (because to be honest £30 -£40 a month bills to get 8mb connection is a tad ridiculous)I will be forced to take my custom elsewhere.

Can I get a reply please form someone at VM? I have been reading through some of these threads and it appears that "New National Customers and existing customers who renew their contracts" will receive a new "N" grade router.
I have had to renew my contract to move property so does this mean I will be sent one ?
also am I likely to receive a proper connection now and not one that disconnects everytime the phone rings ? not to mention the packet loss etc

Best to phone them, connection dropping on phone call I had for 9 months. Call them to run tests.

Hi kellywaters,
Thanks for your recent posts.
Virgin Media are currently supplying the Netgear DGN1000 'N' range router. If you have this already, then there is no alternative model we can supply, although there is a firmware update available for the Netgear.
Let me know if you require the link.

kellywaters,
Thanks for your prompt response. You can PM me with your account details here and I will check your account status to confirm about this.
If your current router was supplied by Virgin (as a national customer) at your old address and it is not faulty, then you won't necessarily be in receipt of the Netgear DGN1000 router at your new address. You are ofcourse, able to buy one at any point from Virgin by speaking to one of our customer services agents.
But your account details will allow me to confirm this.
Thanks,
