Backup 5mb or 10mb that is the question?

[ Edited ]

I have said that Virgin Media backup and storage is rubbish before and I will say it again, and I emphasise Virgin Media not whoever supplies the software. I will apologise if I have got it wrong but this is an extract/image from My Virgin Media.  Well I would post an image but there is no image button. It appears to have disappeared. Maybe it has been removed for saying backup and storage is rubbish!

Anyhow the image which I would have posted clearly states:

XL = up to 20/30mb and 5mb storage

XXL =  50/100Mb and 10mb storage

which is wrong.  Could somebody from VM explain?

PS to be fair on the same page it says: Or upgrade to Broadband XXL to get unlimited storage for free

for some user groups the image feature and html feature has been removed due to a security breach and you can pm a moderator to get this resolved.

Thanks

Re: Backup 5mb or 10mb that is the question?

I did read it.  I was able to post pictures previously so I am assuming that the 'privilege' has been deliberately removed.   They can stick it!  They should be concerned more with a useless service than whether to allow people to post pictures.  I did read VM's advice on posting pictures and security issue, which do not apply to me.

Cheers

Re: Backup 5mb or 10mb that is the question?

I found this in the "Forum Suggestions" from VM support :-

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using HTML to post images temporarily restricted

Due to a security issue we've recently been informed of we've temporarily restricted the ability of forum users to post images using HTML and use other simple HTML in their posts to those users with the rank Knows The Ropes and above.

You should still be able to post links and images using the insert link and picture buttons  at the top of the message box, alternatively if you want to host your images off the forum you can still insert the full link to your image into your post.

Thanks

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to this I should still have the picture button but on my account this has disappeared along with the HTML button. In any case I think my rank is above "Knows The Ropes" so shouldn't I have been unaffected anyway

Not being able to put up screen shots directly is another backward step (not to mention a P.I.T.A.) if you have something to report or explain to other users. Surely this is a bit draconian for a so far unexplained "security issue"

Hey emlan0615,

Unfortunately you haven't reached the Knows the Ropes rank as of yet, keep on being a valuable member of the community and you'll reach it in no time though!

Sorry for the inconvinience.

Ah - my mistake
Higher still than "A Regular" then --- so what posting count has to be achieved for this then (it's already taken me 2 years to get this far :smileysad:)
Anyway - according to the text of the support note above the picture icon shouldn't have been removed in the first place

Well I will repeat once again VM backup and storage is rubbish.  I have never heard of any forum or Website operating such a Draconian rule.  It is particularly galling when this is done to paying members of the forum who easily identified.

Re: Backup 5mb or 10mb that is the question?

TBH I wouldn't trust VM with a single bit of my data, let alone 10GB.

And how, please tell, does one retrieve the data when "utilisation issues" mean you lose connection to the internet for days or weeks at a time?

I doubt that VM has technical or procedural expertise to keep data secure and safe (and there's probably some small print somewhere that absolves VM from any action if your data gets wiped/corrupted/lost/stolen/sold).

Buy an external HDD and keep it at a trusted friend's house.
